A white lily for Lilly White

Look at it sitting there delicate and soft
It's reflection promising so much that it's unable to deliver

It is good enough though,
good enough to hand to her as a token of my affection
or at least of the effect that she has had on me

Someday soon I'll never be in this vulnerable position again
From then on I will growl at the young,
for missed opportunities and abandoning good fortune

But for now, for the next 11 minutes there is a haunting fear
an all consuming terror of past abandonment built on cockamamie schemes
Nights spent wallowing alone, torn up inside and waiting for a plot twist

This time will be different, dear God
I will not allow stalemate this go around
As I am I, there is no stopping me
